Prof. Tie Wang hosted the lecture

The topic of this report is “Publishing with Cell Press in Physical Science Journals”, and Dr. Sun introduced it in two parts:

Firstly, Dr. Sun introduced the origin of the Matter in detail, which is a journal launched by Cell Press after Chem and Joule, covers a variety of fields such as biology, energy, optics, and magnetism. The first issue was in July 2019 and the initial semi-impact factor was 15.6 in 2021, which shows that the potential of the Matter cannot be underestimated.

Secondly, Dr. Sun talked about the submission process of the Matter. The editors have the independent right of rejection, but they can’t send the manuscripts for review independently. In addition, Matter will reject about 85% of manuscripts, and only 15% of manuscripts can be sent for review. The authors enjoyed an excellent publishing experience because of the low review rate and issues.

In the second part of report, Dr. Sun gave us some advice for manuscript submission. Firstly, do not submit articles from top to bottom according to the grade. Instead, choosing a right journal will prevent the disgust of the editor from top journals. Secondly, a good cover letter should not be too long and should express concisely and highlight the key points. 3 to 5 keywords are suggested and the contents need to show the advantages of your article.

In addition, Dr. Sun suggested that an effective title in declarative sentences of the article is possible and avoid using some special symbols and uncommon abbreviations. The abstract should be interesting, precise, easy to understand and straight to the key points. The introduction should point out the application area, problems need to solve and the corresponding solutions, as well as the limitations. The results should be clear and readily understood, using paragraph headings, providing analysis techniques and high-quality figures and tables.

Teachers' questions

After the presentation, teachers and students discussed positively. Meanwhile, Prof. Wang and Dr. Sun also shared their own experiences with everyone. They hoped that everyone should work hard to improve their research ability, experimental skills and the ability to cooperate with other researchers, which can improve the level of our articles.

Reporter and participating teachers

A good article not only reflect the author's research achievements but also make a great contribution to the development of scientific research. We keep this goal in mind and hold this lecture, aiming to improve the academic level and article writing ability of teachers and students and provide them with a rich and high-level academic platform.
