On July 8, 2022, at the invitation of Prof. Wang Tie, Dean of Life and Health Intelligent Research Institute of Tianjin University of Technology, Researcher Wang Congyang from the Institute of Chemistry Chinese Academy of Sciences visited the Life and Health Intelligent Research Institute and gave a lecture on the topic of "Manganese Group Metal Organocatalysis". The presentation was attended by all the students and faculty of the Life and Health Intelligent Research Institute and teachers from other colleges of the School.

In this presentation, researcher Wang Congyang introduced the current research status of manganese in synthetic chemistry from a brief background of manganese group metals, and presented the current development opportunities and challenges. Then, researcher Wang Congyang highlighted the scientific problems and current challenges and explained the research strategy of the group, which was divided into three points, namely: manganese base synergy, manganese acid synergy and the uniqueness of manganese metal itself. After that, he introduced the alkene addition reactions, polar addition reactions and hydrogen transfer reactions done by the group members according to the research strategy, aiming to realize the organic synthetic chemistry with the characteristics of manganese group metals. Lastly, researcher Wang Congyang introduced the research work being done by the group, which is now mainly engaged in catalytic nitrogen fixation synthesis of organic amines in response to the national call to develop a characteristic metal-catalyzed nitrogen fixation chemistry system from nitrogen to organic amines.

After the lecture, teachers and students actively asked questions and spoke enthusiastically, and Mr. Wang Congyang answered them in detail with his humorous tone. He pointed out that "organic synthesis needs to be forward-looking, we need to be challenged, we should step out of our comfort zone and do some substantial research". "He also emphasized that there is no shortcut to experiments, and all methods are obtained from countless experiments, and we should have a clear goal for each topic,and then be confident to do what we want to do. The teachers and students in the audience were powerfully inspired.
