On Oct. 15, 2021, Prof. Tie Wang invited Dr. Xin Su, an editor of the ANGEWANDTE CHEMIE journal, to give a report entitled "A Chemical Story of Impurities". Dr. Su talked about the history of mankind for the pursuit of purity and the influence of impurities on experiments. All the teachers and students of our institute attended the meeting.
Prof. Tie Wang presided over the lecture
First, Dr. Su introduced the concept of purity through people's demand for the purity of gold, alcohol and mercury, and described its development history in detail.
Secondly, Dr. Su introduced that people in the early days were unable to remove impurities from substances due to the limitation of technology under the background of Bronze Age and Iron Age, but they never gave up the substances with higher purity. So the level of technological development was improved because of the progress of purification technology.
Dr. Xin Su was gaving a report
Finally, Dr. Su pointed out that the effects of impurities existed in many aspects, especially in chemistry. Researchers couldn't get the pure substances from the experiments using different kind of methods, and they didn't consider that it might be caused by the unclean magnetons. Additionally, Dr. Su presented a lot of similar examples and explained in detail, which solved the doubts of many researchers. It is believed that the researchers can avoid any possible problems in future experiments based on Dr. Su's report. After the report, Dr. Su communicated with the teachers and students.
Teachers' questions
At the end of the lecture, Prof. Wang summarized the deep meaning of the report and encouraged all the teachers and students to pay more attention on their research and strive to publish their articles in the excellent journals such as ANGEWANDTE.
