As one of the oldest and most prestigious scientific journals in the world, "Nature" is an international and interdisciplinary weekly scientific journal. It is widely concerned by scientific researchers and has great influence in the scientific community. Therefore, how to improve the success rate of submission to Nature journals has been brought into focus by the majority of researchers. Therefore, on July 5, 2021, Life and Health Intelligent Research Institute of Tianjin University of Technology invited Dr. Xin Li, the editor of Nature Materials, to give a lecture entitled "Inside Nature journals: An editor's view" for teachers and students of our university. The academic report was chaired by Professor Tie Wang, and Comrade Dongzhi Liu, secretary of theuniversityparty committee, attended the report meeting.
Dr. Li introduces Nature journals
Firstly, Dr. Li introduced series of Nature publications and focused on the Nature materials which was edited by her, including the editorial team, daily work, submission types, manuscript processing procedures and writing submission experience.
When introducing the manuscript processing process, Dr. Li pointed out that Nature is very strict in every step from initial review, selection of reviewers, submission for review, decision, until publication. The purpose is to ensure that the published scientific research results are major discoveries and important breakthroughs in the scientific world, thus to keep the public informed of all progress made in every branch of natural knowledge around the world.
Dr. Li pointed out that the evaluation criteria for submitted manuscripts to review in the series of Nature journals are basically the same, mainly depending on the novelty, significant advance and broad implication of the article. She also listed the problems encountered during the submission process and the corresponding solutions.

Finally, Dr. Li shared experience in submission. During the submission process, no matter whether the article was accepted or not, we must respect and thank the reviewers, patiently answer and solve the questions raised by the reviewers. If the author has any objection to the review results, appeals can be filed and new data added. In addition, Dr. Li gave a detailed introduction of article writing, and gave valuable advice on how the authors choose reviewers.

At the end of report meeting, the teachers and classmates actively asked questions and Dr. Li gave detailed and comprehensive answers one by one. The on-site academic atmosphere was extremely strong.
